Low-dose Aspirin Versus Other Anticoagulants for Venous Thromboembolic Prophylaxis following Surgical Treatment of Hip Fractures: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
This study will compare low-dose aspirin with other anticoagulants for preventing symptomatic venous thromboembolism after hip fracture surgery. Through a systematic review and meta-analysis, we will assess blood-clot and bleeding complications within 90 days of surgery to clarify the evidence on preventive treatment options.
Research focus
- Define the research question, eligibility criteria and review protocol.
- Develop and run a reproducible literature search.
- Screen studies on low-dose aspirin and comparator anticoagulants after hip fracture surgery.
- Extract data on symptomatic venous thromboembolism and bleeding within 90 days of surgery.
- Assess study quality and risk of bias.
- Pool comparable outcome estimates and interpret uncertainty where meta-analysis is appropriate.
